Oscars 2009 Red Carpet Early Arrivals

Miley Cyrus – Ball Gowner – frilly, off white and navy (?) frosted cabbage leaf looking dress by Zuhair Murad. Does she remember that she’s a teenager, sometimes? Sweetie, you are only in your teens once. Us girls in our slightly later years can never dress like we are in our teens again, so work it NOW.

Put on something fun – Thakoon, Phillip Lim, maybe something a little mod and Bri’ish? Be a girl!

While the dress is not great for her, my favourite style element on this is the embellished belt – not something you’d expect to work on such a frou frou number, but it does.

Slumdog Sweeties – Heart stoppers – The kids from Slumdog on the red carpet. All adorable in their tuxedoes.

Surely the best line of the night: Ryan Seacrest to one of the sweeties (I think it was Ayush Mahesh Khedekar): “You are looking like a grownup.”

Sweetie to Ryan: “So are you.” I love that these children are in the spotlight. They deserve it more than anyone else at that party.

81st_pintof_0481st_pateld_01Dev and Freida – Darlings – The Mediterranean blue lace John Galliano one-shoulder (Mich O, we owe you!) back knotted dress with that 150-year-old Indian diamond ring on her index finger may be beautiful, but Freida Pinto donning them makes them both memorable. She is so poised and ready for her moment – not nervous about a thing, miss thing. Love the confidence.

And her updo, knotted in the back to echo the back knot of the dress is so graceful. Calling this early, but this may be my dress of the night. You know I am not a John G girl, but she just carries this. Dev and Danny B got great haircuts for the big night. Don’t you just want to squeeze Dev’s cheeks everytime you see him? And that other grinner in the slim suit and tie is Madhur Mittal.

Amy Adams – Redder and better than Heidi – Just caught a glimpse but it’s deeeep blue red, drapy in all the right places. Simple bun and that INSANE piece of art around her poised neck by Fred Leighton. Is it muticoloured tourmalines? Or maybe it’s jade and rubies and sapphires to match the ruby red and what looks like navy piping in her Carolina Herrera dress? I’m going to need one of those jewelled collars, please. Also, Heidi Klum should never talk. Sorry Monsieur Mouret, your usual brilliance is lost on me this time. Somebody else could have carried that dress…maybe…but not high-pitched Heidi. Even Virgina Madsen outdid her with her architectural red column by Kevan Hall.
