It’s Holi , the Indian festival of Spring and Indians the world over are putting on their whites. The white garb provides a blank canvas upon which their friends and neighbours will smear coloured powder, in every shade imaginable. Holi is all about the arrival of Spring – and gorgeous colour!
After a season of wearing mostly uniform black, I wasn’t positioned for pastels…but I feel I must emerge from the darkness, albeit temporarily. But, I’ll do it slowly from within this Shantanu and Nikhil cocoon, shown at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week for Spring Summer 09.
If you are not an ice-cream shade girl, don’t cry over your melting mocha-almond-fudge, the season’s fashions have plenty of jewel and spice tones to help you keep it real. Halston’s hot cayenne sari drape dress, Lanvin’s turmeric pouf or Bottega Veneta’s curry-sima are all options for your own spice route.

Even Ann D showed colour.

Alberta Ferretti showed a slightly harder, fringed, flapper frock in framboise. Harder is relative here, of course, still within the soft signature of the Signora.
If you’ve seen the gem collection of Michael Scott at the ROM, then you know this long, languid Lanvin look is the true colour of rubies. The skinnies simply rock, especially when paired with neutral pumps. Debbie Harry, are you taking notes for your next tour?

The world is awash in colour this season…more Spring colour stories to come.
Until then, put on your primaries and scream out loud: HOLIÂ HAI!!!
