It’s that time of year – time to reflect, time to renew, time to re-energize and find your spark again.
Why not do it with a little sparkle?
Actually, why not do it with a lot of sparkle?

Designed by Toronto jewellery designer Reena Ahluwalia, these baubles are the latest in Royal Asscher’s Stars of Africa series, a fundraising initiative for the continent. The US-based diamond manufacturer (a diamantaire – my first shiny new word of 2011!) launched the line in 2009, with a series of 18 rings made of sapphire domes, filled with diamonds that dance like snowflakes in a snow globe.

Ahluwalia’s take on the series is a little more cosmic. The globes in her pendants and earrings actually spin (!) – modern day amulets symbolizing the earth’s rotation, and the floating diamonds represent the shining spirit of Africa’s people.

Jewellery should be special – I loved the universal meaning behind these pieces – and the sparkle of that meaning.

That might just make them the best New Year’s gift you could give your new self.
May 2011 bring you love, light and brilliance, my dears!
Thank you for being the eyes and hearts on the other side of these words. You are cherished more than diamonds.
