Let the fashion shuffle begin – as I retweeted this AM.
Cathy Horyn from the New York Times sent out a tweet this morning in North America (or afternoon, in Milan Fashion Week time), saying that Saturday’s Raf Simons show for Jil Sander, was to be his last for the label.
Equally seasoned fashion journalist, Hilary Alexander, sent out a tweet shortly afterwards (crediting Horyn’s original message) and speculating that “The Woman Herself” could return to the brand that she built.
It wasn’t long after that, that my BlackBerry was a-buzz.
Many other fashion people (in high places) were tweeting as if they, themselves, had broken the news (bad Twitter etiquette!) and others, of course, were tweeting the resulting appointments without backup. (Horyn had sent out a subsequent tweet after her initial one indicating that reps at Jil Sander had confirmed Raf’s departure.)
As of a few minutes ago, both were trending globally on Twitter.

Regardless of who ends up where (and I have my thoughts on how it will all unfold), it just goes to show how far fashion, now reaches.
Jil Sander isn’t a mainstream label, and Raf Simons is a Belgian designer. Both were reserved for fashion’s elite, up until a few short years ago.
This, my dears, is what I call fashion’s new democracy. I wonder if it will alter the decisions that have already been made, as to who ends up where.
I’ll keep watching…along with much of the free world.
I’ll give you my professional views, too. I can never look at the digital business like a civilian – have worked in it for far too long.
